sustainable future ideas
A platform for sharing sustainable ideas
why do we need sustainability?
Sustainability is back! Humanity forgot how to live sustainably for a couple hundred years, but we're shifting back to sustainable solutions to our problems.
Sustainability has become an increasingly important topic in the past 30 years as the negative impact of human activity on the environment has become more evident.
Sustainability is the practices that allow us to meet our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations of living creatures to meet their own needs. This means finding ways to produce the food, energy and materials we need without polluting the air, water, and soil or using up too much of the world’s resources to sustain future life. It also means finding ways to reduce waste and conserve resources found in the natural environments.
There are many ways to achieve sustainability, but some of the most important include reducing energy consumption, promoting renewable energy sources and increasing recycling and reuse - throughout all phases of the production and consumption processes. Sustainable solutions are necessary to ensure a healthy planet for future generations of living things.
Sustainability has become an increasingly important topic in recent years as the world grapples with the issues of climate change and environmental degradation. Sustainable solutions meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. In other words, sustainability is about balancing our use of natural resources (and the natural environments around us) with the need to protect and preserve those environments.
What are some sustainable ideas?
We need to continue developing sustainable ideas to reduce the impact of climate change, slow down the destruction of the natural environments and reduce desperate poverty.
One sustainable idea is to create homes that are highly energy-efficient and use renewable energy sources. Doing so reduces greenhouse gas emissions and the use of oil and electricity in keeping them comfortably cool or warm.
Intentional communities such as the ones promoted by Evolving Seeds provide affordable and sustainable housing and food, community, income, education, and art.
Another sustainable idea is to grow flowers and foods instead of grass. Home gardens and community gardens allow people to grow their own fresh, healthy food at minimal financial cost while also eliminating the use of plastic and oil that store-bought foods require to create and transport them. (They also beautify neighborhoods and provide honeybees a wonderful home).
Another sustainable idea is to make walking and biking popular and accessible as transportation options. These transportation methods improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, and improve the health of every living thing. This change needs to happen at the systemic level and implemented through civil engineering.
By implementing these and other sustainable ideas, we can make a massively positive impact on the planet, animals and people.
